Wider Acceptance

Once the right vehicles have been identified for you, it’s usual for us to meet, either at your office or ours in Chesterfield, to find out more about each other. The best business relationships are open and frank: we’ll tell you anything you need to know about GKL and we like to know all about you, too. This meeting is a chance to deal with any questions, satisfy each other about credit issues and provide confidence.

As a small and flexible company with a flat management structure, GKL is less hidebound by the kind of rules that can make it harder for you to do business than it needs to be. Many leasing companies won’t deal with start-ups or subsidiaries of foreign companies, but we will consider all enquiries and give an immediate decision, based on your individual circumstances and not just your credit rating. Perhaps it’s the entrepreneurial spirit of the Kenning family coming to the fore!

Recent examples include:

  • A subsidiary of a German printing company that was making a loss in the UK. Because of the strength of the German parent, we were prepared to supply six vehicles – without which they could not sell in the UK and turn the loss into a profit. As the company’s fortunes turned, the English team effected a management buyout and is now a very successful UK company.
  • A Belgian animal feed supplier with no office in the UK was seeking a fleet of vehicles for its field sales force. Having spoken to a number of leasing companies and found them uninterested, they approached GKL; we were prepared to do the research and liaise with the financial director in Belgium. We now look after every aspect of their fleet in the UK.
  • The managing director of an IT startup company required three cars to get the business going. In the absence of a credit history we looked at the business plan and the person, and took the judgement that they had a future. That company is now worth millions and has 65 vehicles, which have included a Ferrari, an Aston Martin and a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, and it is now in discussion with GKL about financing its IT network.
